Kids in Mind Research is a unit within the Mater CYMHS. Our aim is to conduct research into child and youth mental health service delivery in real-world settings. Find out more about our aims and mission.
Much research to date has involved patients commonly seen in university settings and with strict selection criteria. Often such work does not apply to more complex clinical presentations.
Mater CYMHS recognizes that our clients frequently exhibit multiple problems, for example, having more than one mental health disorder (comorbidity) or having compounding psychosocial difficulties that may impede treatment of their disorder. Studying people who present in clinical settings and evaluating their treatment is the aim of Kids in Mind Research. Find out more information about our research projects.
In addition to treatment effectiveness, service research can indicate gaps and areas of unmet need in a comprehensive continuum of care, for example, for clients from ethnic backgrounds, individuals with dual diagnoses and children whose parents may have their own health needs. Frequently, our service research is employed to support specific projects and to develop new approaches. Find out more information about our current service development projects.
The results of our research are disseminated via conference presentations, published papers or evaluation documents. Find out more information about publications and presentations by Kids in Mind Research staff 2000-2007.
Kids in Mind Research also conducts training and organises conferences. Find more information about research conferences and training.
Dr William Bor, the Director of Kids in Mind Research, presented a paper at the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatry, Child Faculty Conference at Port Douglas (Australia) in October 2008. Dr Bor outlined the justification for a clinical services research centre. Dr Bor is happy to provide copies of the powerpoint presentation at request.
